Every projection on this site comes with a band, and the band is the honest part. The line is what happens if the average happens. It will not. Some decade will be great and some will be awful, and you do not get to pick which comes first.
So plan on the line, and treat the top of the band as a pleasant surprise rather than a target. And once you are living off the pot, take less risk: a bad first decade of drawdown, with money going out every month, is the one thing a portfolio cannot recover from. The planner has a separate allocation for after the freedom age for exactly this reason.
If the worst case on your chart runs out before you do, that is the number to fix. Not by hoping for the best case. By saving a little more, working a little longer or spending a little less. Boring, and it works.
